Ed Johnson is a dedicated leader in governance, community development, and international engagement. With over 40 years of public service, he has made a lasting impact at local, national, and global levels.

A Legacy of Leadership in Asbury Park

From 1998 to 2013, Mr. Johnson served as Mayor, Councilman, and Chairman of the Urban Enterprise Zone, playing a pivotal role in revitalizing Asbury Park. In recognition of his service, he holds the esteemed title of Mayor Emeritus. His leadership continues to inspire civic engagement and community-building initiatives.

Global Influence & Recognition

Committed to international collaboration, Mr. Johnson serves as an Honorary Member & Ambassador to the Global Parliament of Mayors. In June 2024, he was an official NGO Observer at the UNFCCC SB60 climate change conference in Bonn, Germany. His contributions to education and government were honored in May 2024 with the Partnership in Education and Government Award.

Driving Economic & Business Growth

As President and First Vice President of the Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors (2020–2023), Mr. Johnson championed local businesses and economic development. His involvement in the New Jersey Conference of Mayors and the New Jersey League of Municipalities underscores his commitment to statewide progress.

Higher Education & Civic Engagement

Currently serving as Executive Director of Governmental Affairs and Community Relations at Brookdale Community College, Mr. Johnson fosters community connections and civic engagement. Previously, as Senior Executive Officer of Community Engagement (2020–2021), he led strategic initiatives to expand the college’s outreach and impact.

As an Adjunct Faculty member at Rutgers University and Brookdale Community College, he shares his expertise in Political Science, mentoring the next generation of leaders.

A proud graduate of New Jersey Public Schools and Eastern New Mexico University, Mr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts and a Master of Arts in Social and Political Sciences. His alma mater recognized his contributions with an induction into the ENMU Alumni Hall of Fame.
